Voice Over IP Technology The Future Of Telecommunications
March 10th, 2010 by Jack

Voice over IP is the latest and advanced telecommunication technology. Even though this system is new, people are switching to this very fast because of one particular reason. It saves you a lot of money in phone bills. This VOIP technology provides a much less expensive way to send and receive telephone calls. Internet systems work by sending packets of information over cables, wires, fiber optics, or using wireless technology. At the other end the packets are received and joined together to the original form. Voice over IP uses the same technology that makes the internet function.

For Voice Over IP to work, a special modem called an Analogue Terminal Adapter – ATA for short. This special modem-like device converts the analog signal (your voice) into a digital signal that the computer can understand. Because the data is digital, it is very pure. Today’s VoIP calls can be so clear that it is not uncommon for the receiving party to think they have been disconnected if there is a moment of silence. For the calls to be that clear, you will need a high-speed connection such as cable or fiber optics. DSL could work, but the others are better since if you have DSL you probably also have a traditional phone. Fortunately high-speed connections are fairly standard in all metropolitan areas and in most rural ones. Do you think VoIP will work for you? Here’s a list of common providers:

– Vonage: Vonage is one of the biggest, oldest, and most known of the group. They were trailblazers in making VoIP mainstream, and they offer a lot of services via their very aggressive marketing. They offer excellent service, but they are one of the more expensive options at $25 per month for the standard unlimited plan. International calls cost extra.

Sunrocket is another company growing significantly as a major player in the VOIP world. It is a more recent player, but they are very reliable and offer very low cost competitive plans. An unlimited calling plan will cost less than $17 dollars per month.

-Phone Carriers. Some of the traditional phone service providers also give VOIP plans. For model Verizon now offers their own version of VOIP service costing about 25 dollars per month. At this monthly price, Verizon compares well with Vonage, while it still needs a poorer price to be clever to compete with Sunrocket on the basis of price.

-Little Startup Companies. As an exciting new technology, VOIP is attracting some little companies into the business. Sometimes these companies can offer terrific service at a little price. However, the VOIP business surroundings are altering rapidly so it pays to shop approximately carefully when looking at little companies.

Whatever plan you choose over the Voice Over IP companies, the main result is to save your money on telephone calls. It is more expensive to call through the basic phone service, than to call by VOIP companies. It is still cheaper to call through VOIP with its advanced services, including call waiting, three way calling and other features. It is more worth for your hard earned money. It is more simple to operate and plain enough.
